What Is SPF Roofing?
Spray polyurethane foam — SPF — is a two-component liquid that's mixed and sprayed directly onto the roof surface. Within seconds, it expands into a solid closed-cell foam that bonds to the substrate beneath it. The foam is then protected by a layer of elastomeric coating (usually silicone or acrylic) that shields it from UV exposure and weathering.
The result is a continuous, monolithic surface with no seams, no laps, no mechanical fasteners, and no thermal gaps. Because it's sprayed, it conforms perfectly to drains, pipes, HVAC curbs, and any irregular features on the roof — creating a self-flashing system around every penetration.
SPF is also one of the most renewable roofing systems available. When the protective coating wears out, you recoat — not replace. With proper maintenance, an SPF roof can last indefinitely.
